Food, and frozen yogurt, equal fast growth in the franchise world. The ranking is based on the increase in number of open and operating U.S. and Canadian franchise units from July 31, 2013, to July 31, 2014.
There are two rankings to look at: Entrepreneur 2015 Franchise 500, which reveals the impact of the newest trends and the industries poised for growth. and 2015 Fastest Growing Franchises. The top frozen dessert and yogurt franchises from the list include:
1. Kona Ice (#87 Franchise 500, #12 Fastest Growing)
Kona Ice franchisees bring trucks to events and serve shaved ice that customers can flavor themselves. Several fundraising events can be spun off of this concept with schools, sports teams and other community groups.
2. Sweet Frog Premium Frozen Yogurt (#355 Franchise 500, #20 Fastest Growing)
Sweet Frog locations are the perfect example for how frozen yogurt franchises should diversify their product to get more profit. On top of frozen yogurt and toppings, they offer waffle cones and bowls, Belgian waffles, banana splits and parfaits.
3. Menchie's (#11 Frznchise 500, #27 Fastest Growing)
Menchies began in 2007 in Los Angeles. Founders Danna and Adam Caldwell came up with the company's name from the nickname Adam gave when they were dating. They have over 100 rotating flavors and offer several gluten-free, low-fat options.
4. Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt (#132 Franchise 500, #80 Fastest Growing)
Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt was founded in 2008 and began franchising a year later. Each Orange Leaf location offers self-serve frozen yogurt with a rotating selection of flavors and a toppings bar.
5. Yogurtland (#168 Franchise 500, #80 Fastest Growing, tying with Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt)
Yogurtland stores offer self-serve frozen yogurt, with 16 flavors available daily, along with 33 toppings. Customers are charged by the ounce.
