To be truly successful, you can never stick to the status quo. Many yogurt shop owners are finding that to attract customers they need to offer what no other frozen yogurt shop is offering. The self-serve concept, delicious tasting yogurt, and assortment of toppings will get people in the door, but how do you keep these customers coming back? You need to stand out and be different!
One of the most creative uses of frozen yogurt I have seen is the frozen yogurt filled cannoli. I enjoyed an Apple Pie flavored, frozen yogurt filled, cannoli at Dante’s Frozen Yogurt in Boston, Massachusetts. I have not seen another shop who has offered this, but I am sure it will catch on soon.
A great addition to a frozen yogurt store in the winter months is coffee. Forget the creamer, how about Espresso flavored frozen yogurt? Frozen yogurt is also great when accompanied by delicious cupcakes. Sweet! By Holly offers over 30 different kinds of cupcakes in addition to their several frozen yogurt options. With two locations in Jacksonville and Orlando, Florida, people come in droves to try the many different flavors of cupcakes.
Located in Tahoe City, California, Poppy’s Waffle Shop and Frozen Yogurt offers just what the name in implies. There are few combinations that sound better than a fluffy, warm waffle and delicious, cool froyo.
Another trend that is sweeping the nation is the unique tasting Boba Tea. If you are unaware, Boba Tea is a tea-based drink that is mixed with either fruit or milk. Boba Tea’s most recognizable characteristic is what you will find at the bottom of the drink. The drink comes with small chewy tapioca balls or “jellies” at the bottom. Mochi Frozen Yogurt offers several different flavors of Boba Tea that are all delicious.
Another unique offering that you may find in your local frozen yogurt shop is a rice cake, called a mochi. You can wrap this mochi around a scoop of ice cream, and you have a “Mochi Ice Cream!” These are also referred to as mochi bon-bons.
It has become very common for frozen yogurt shops to offer smoothies, an assortment of soft drinks, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, waffles, Boba Tea, mochi bon-bons, etc. With so many shops diversifying their offerings and adding new things to the mix, what will you do to differentiate your shop?
